New chapter for Langaard

On August 21st, we open the doors to our new store on Karl Johan – and simultaneously mark the start of a new era for Langaard.

After 43 years in the same premises, we are moving into new, custom-designed spaces by the Grand Hotel, developed in collaboration with the renowned architecture and interior design firm
Metropolis.

For us, the move is about more than just a new address. We want to create a destination for jewelry, diamonds, and fine craftsmanship, where our history and heritage meet a modern and international expression.

– Based on the venerable space we had at Karl Johans gate 31, and the experience from Langaard’s existing store, we wanted to open up the store more. Large window surfaces, good visibility, and clear sightlines create depth, while allowing as much natural light as possible into the ground floor. The combination of excellent display areas on the ground floor and more secluded rooms in the basement also allows us to host both larger and smaller events for specific customer groups, says Joakim Bjerke, CEO of Urmaker Bjerke.

Architecture with roots in Norwegian nature

Metropolis has more than 25 years of experience with architecture and interior design, and has developed a number of high-profile projects in Norway and internationally over the years. Among these projects are Britannia Hotel in Trondheim, Opus XVI in Bergen, Holmenkollen Park in Oslo, and Urmaker Bjerke.

In working on our new store, the goal has been to create an interior that reflects Langaard's new visual expression, while simultaneously building on what has remained constant throughout our history.

The materials have been chosen with precisely this in mind. Durable materials, tactile surfaces, and light are used to shape the rooms, while contrasts between soft and angular, delicate and solid, give the interior a character inspired by nature. An important approach has been the exclusive use of Norwegian natural stone, including larvikite and Hermelin. The stones change their expression depending on how they are treated – from raw and rough surfaces to smooth and polished faces – in the same way that a jewel can appear completely different depending on how the light hits it.

Our characteristic blue color recurs as a consistent detail throughout the interior, from light to deeper blue tones. The natural blue hues of the larvikite tie the materials and colors together.

– We are very proud to have been involved in this unique and exclusive project, and to be part of Langaard's further development and journey. In close collaboration with Langaard and Bjerke, we have developed a destination that supports Langaard's philosophy, and which we hope will provide a great setting and create lasting memories for the customer, says Hedda Torgersen of Metropolis.

A place for jewelry – and stories

With our new store, we want to give Langaard’s universe more space. The jewelry is the center of attention, while the rooms reflect what has been an essential part of our identity from the start: craftsmanship, quality, knowledge, and jewelry with stories that can live on for generations.

For more than 40 years, Langaard has developed exclusive jewelry with a strong focus on craftsmanship, quality, and personal service. With the new store, we want to carry on this legacy while opening the door to a new generation of customers, says Katrine Adler-Gjerde, General Manager of Langaard.

The craftsmanship is also given a more visible space. Tucked away at the back of the ground floor is the "goldsmith's corner," where our visitors can get an insight into the goldsmithing profession and the work behind the jewelry.

Downstairs is the "atelier," where our history and design process have their own space. Here, we have carried over the characteristic marble counter from our former store, designed by Nico Widerberg, as a key focal point. The atelier also displays drawings and sketches that provide an insight into how a piece of jewelry is created – from idea and design to finished expression.

A new generation Langaard

The new store opens at a time when we are undergoing a major development. Since the Bjerke family acquired Langaard in November 2025, we have worked purposefully to further develop the historic jeweler – with a new visual direction, an expanded product range, and a clear ambition to make Langaard relevant for new generations, without losing what has made us unique.

As part of this development, we have also entered into a long-term collaboration with Isabel Haugseng Johansen, who will become an ambassador for Langaard. Together, we are developing a signature jewelry collection that will be launched in the autumn of 2026.

We look forward to opening the doors to our new store at Karl Johans gate 31 on August 21, 2026, and to welcoming both existing and new customers to a new chapter in Langaard's history.
