A New Chapter for Langaard

On 21 August, we open the doors to our new store on Karl Johan – marking the beginning of a new era for Langaard.

After 43 years in the same premises, we are moving into a new, purpose-designed space next to the Grand Hotel, developed in collaboration with the renowned architecture and interior design studio Metropolis.

For us, the move is about more than a new address. We want to create a destination for jewellery, diamonds and fine craftsmanship, where our heritage meets a contemporary, international perspective.

– "Building on the character of the historic premises at Karl Johans gate 31, as well as our experience with Langaard’s existing store, we wanted to create a more open environment. Large windows, clear sightlines and an open layout create a sense of depth while bringing as much natural light as possible into the ground floor. The combination of generous display areas upstairs and more private spaces downstairs also allows us to host both larger and more intimate events for selected groups of clients,” says Joakim Bjerke, Chief Administrative Officer at Urmaker Bjerke.

Architecture rooted in Norwegian nature

Metropolis has more than 25 years of experience in architecture and interior design, with a portfolio of prominent projects in Norway and internationally. These include Britannia Hotel in Trondheim, Opus XVI in Bergen, Holmenkollen Park in Oslo and Urmaker Bjerke.

For our new store, the ambition has been to create an interior that reflects Langaard’s new visual identity while building on the qualities that have remained constant throughout our history.

The materials were chosen with this in mind. Enduring materials, tactile surfaces and light shape the rooms, while contrasts between soft and angular, delicate and solid give the interior a character inspired by nature. An important element is the exclusive use of Norwegian natural stone, including larvikite and Hermelin. Their appearance changes depending on how the stone is treated – from raw, textured surfaces to smooth, polished finishes – much like a gemstone can reveal an entirely different character depending on how the light falls across it.

Our signature blue appears throughout the interior, ranging from pale to deeper shades. The natural blue tones of the larvikite bring the materials and colour palette together.

– “We are very proud to have been part of this unique project and to contribute to the continued development and journey of Langaard. Working closely with Langaard and Bjerke, we have created a destination that reflects Langaard’s philosophy and that we hope will provide a beautiful setting for lasting memories for its clients,” says Hedda Torgersen of Metropolis.

A place for jewellery – and stories

,With the new store, we want to give the Langaard universe more room. Jewellery remains at its heart, while the surroundings reflect what has been central to our identity from the beginning: craftsmanship, quality, expertise and jewellery with stories that can be carried forward through generations.

“For more than 40 years, Langaard has created fine jewellery with a strong emphasis on craftsmanship, quality and personal service. With the new store, we want to carry this heritage forward while opening the door to a new generation of clients,” says Katrine Adler-Gjerde, Managing Director of Langaard.

Craftsmanship also takes on a more visible role. At the back of the ground floor is the Goldsmith’s Corner, where visitors can gain an insight into the goldsmith’s craft and the work behind each piece.

Downstairs is the Atelier, a dedicated space for our history and design process. Here, the distinctive marble counter from the previous store, designed by Nico Widerberg, has been given a new home as an important focal point. Drawings and sketches offer a glimpse into how a piece of jewellery takes shape – from the initial idea and design to the finished creation.

A new generation of Langaard

The opening of the new store comes at a time of broader development for Langaard. Since the Bjerke family acquired the company in November 2025, we have been working to develop the historic jeweller for its next chapter – introducing a new visual direction, evolving the collection and pursuing a clear ambition to make Langaard relevant to new generations without losing the qualities that have made the house distinctive.

As part of this development, we have also entered into a long-term collaboration with Isabel Haugseng Johansen, who will become an ambassador for Langaard. Together, we are developing a jewellery collection to be launched in autumn 2026.

We look forward to opening the doors to our new store at Karl Johans gate 31 on 21 August 2026, and to welcoming both existing and new clients to a new chapter in Langaard’s story.
