A New Chapter for Langaard

On 21 August, we open the doors to our new store on Karl Johans gate, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Langaard's history.

After 43 years in the same premises, we are moving to a new, purpose-designed store next to the Grand Hotel. Developed in collaboration with the renowned architecture and interior design studio Metropolis, the new space reflects both our heritage and our ambitions for the future.

For us, the move represents more than a change of address. Our ambition is to create a destination for fine jewellery, diamonds and craftsmanship in the heart of Oslo, bringing together our history and traditions with a contemporary, international approach to design and presentation.

“Drawing on the character of our former premises at Karl Johans gate 31, as well as our experience of Langaard's existing store, we wanted to create a more open and inviting space. Large windows, greater visibility from the street and clear sightlines give the store a sense of depth while bringing more natural light into the ground floor. Generous display areas on the ground floor, combined with more private rooms on the lower level, also allow us to host both larger gatherings and smaller, more intimate events for selected groups of clients,” says Joakim Bjerke, Chief Administrative Officer at Urmaker Bjerke.

Architecture Inspired by Norwegian Nature

With more than 25 years of experience in architecture and interior design, Metropolis has worked on a number of notable projects in Norway and abroad, including Britannia Hotel in Trondheim, Opus XVI in Bergen, Holmenkollen Park in Oslo and Urmaker Bjerke.

In designing our new store, the aim was to create an interior that reflects Langaard's new visual identity while remaining true to the qualities that have defined us throughout our history.

Every material has been carefully considered. Natural textures, enduring materials and thoughtful lighting shape the spaces, while contrasts between soft and angular forms, delicate details and solid surfaces draw inspiration from the Norwegian landscape. A defining feature is the exclusive use of Norwegian natural stone, including larvikite and Hermelin. Different finishes reveal the character of each stone, from rough, textured surfaces to smooth, polished finishes. Much like a gemstone, its appearance changes with the way it is cut, finished and illuminated.

Our signature blue runs throughout the interior, from subtle, pale shades to deeper tones. The natural blue hues of the larvikite create a connection between the stone, the surrounding materials and the overall colour palette.

“We are incredibly proud to have been part of this exceptional project and to contribute to the next chapter in Langaard's development. Working closely with Langaard and Bjerke, we have created a destination that reflects Langaard's philosophy. We hope it will offer a welcoming setting for our clients and create experiences they will remember for years to come,” says Hedda Torgersen of Metropolis.

A Place for Jewellery and Its Stories

Our new store gives us the opportunity to bring more of Langaard's world to life. Jewellery remains at the heart of the experience, while the spaces reflect the values that have shaped us from the beginning: craftsmanship, quality, expertise and a belief in creating pieces that can be treasured for generations.

“For more than 40 years, Langaard has created fine jewellery with a strong emphasis on craftsmanship, quality and personal service. With our new store, we want to build on this heritage while welcoming a new generation of clients,” says Katrine Adler-Gjerde, Managing Director of Langaard.

Craftsmanship also has a more prominent place in the new store. Towards the back of the ground floor, our Goldsmith's Corner offers visitors a closer look at the skills and techniques involved in making fine jewellery.

On the lower level, the Atelier is dedicated to our history and creative process. The distinctive marble counter from our former store, designed by Nico Widerberg, has been carefully incorporated into the new space as a central feature. Here, drawings and sketches also offer an insight into the development of a piece of jewellery, from the first idea and initial designs to the finished creation.

The Next Generation of Langaard

The opening of our new store marks another important step in Langaard's development. Since the Bjerke family acquired Langaard in November 2025, we have been working to shape the future of the historic jewellery house. This includes a new visual identity, a carefully developed jewellery offering and a clear ambition to introduce Langaard to a new generation of clients, while preserving the craftsmanship, expertise and traditions that have defined us for more than four decades.

As part of this new direction, we have entered into a long-term partnership with Isabel Haugseng Johansen, who joins us as a Langaard ambassador. Together, we are creating an exclusive jewellery collection, scheduled to launch in autumn 2026.

We look forward to welcoming both longstanding and new clients to our new store at Karl Johans gate 31 when we open on 21 August 2026.
